Vapor Absorption Chillers (Voltas)

Voltas

As far as green cooling solutions go, vapor absorption chillers (VACs) from Voltas (TATA Group) are top-of-the-line. VACs use waste heat sources to produce chilled water for air-conditioning or process cooling. The process involves the basic principle of evaporation and condensation to provide cooling and is particularly efficient in large spaces.

Waste heat could come from the exhaust of a gas turbines or reciprocating engines, the flue gas from dryers, boilers, kilns, and others. As the input source is waste heat and not electricity, there is practically zero fuel cost. It also utilizes non-CFC refrigerants (lithium-bromide) and water, resulting in a low-carbon footprint.
